Claude Code works in the terminal, desktop app, and IDE. **For local Passion8 access, install → enter the Passion8 URL, API key, and enabled model → restart → verify a request**. Vendor OAuth login is not required for this setup. Installation steps for each entry point follow; if you mainly work in an editor, go directly to [Claude Code’s official VS Code extension setup](https://docs.passion8.cc/en/docs/claude-code/vscode).

After installing the CLI, continue to [Configure Claude Code](https://docs.passion8.cc/en/docs/claude-code/settings). For the full CLI, PATH, and terminal shortcuts, see [CLI and terminal reference](https://docs.passion8.cc/en/docs/claude-code/cli-terminal-reference).

## Install the CLI

### macOS

```bash
curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash
exec $SHELL -l
claude --version
```

### Windows

Run in PowerShell:

```powershell
irm https://claude.ai/install.ps1 | iex
claude --version
```

If `claude` is not found, close and reopen the terminal. If that does not help, add the Claude Code directory reported by the installer to `PATH`, then run `claude --version` again.

## Install the desktop app

Download the version for your system from the official installation page, follow the installer, and confirm you can select or open a local project.

## Install the official IDE extension

1. Search for `Claude Code` in your IDE's extension marketplace.
2. Install the official extension published by Anthropic.
3. Restart the IDE, open a project, and confirm the Claude Code panel or command is available.

The official VS Code extension bundles Claude Code for its chat panel, so a standalone CLI installation is not required. Running `claude` in the integrated terminal still requires the CLI and a correct PATH. See [VS Code configuration](https://docs.passion8.cc/en/docs/claude-code/vscode) for the extension’s user settings and authentication steps.

## Verify installation

From a project directory, run:

```bash
claude --version
```

A version number confirms that the CLI is installed. Complete [Passion8 configuration](https://docs.passion8.cc/en/docs/claude-code/settings), open a new terminal, and then run `claude` in your project or use the guide’s test request. A login prompt before configuration does not mean you need a vendor account; finish the API-key setup first.
